Library Movement Odisha: Fight for Right
Dear Friends/ Respected Seniors,
(All LIS Students, Professionals, Teachers of Odisha)

It is time to restart the library movement in Odisha. Government has neglected Libraries as well as Librarians. Many Graduates & Post Graduates of Library and Information Science are unemployed in Odisha. However there are many vacancies in school, college, university libraries as well as public libraries, the Govt. does not take it seriously. Recently Govt. advertised 1749 posts for Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya (OAVS), where only one post is for Librarian. There are no professional Librarians in all 314 OAVS Schools in Odisha.
Even after Orissa Public Libraries Act, 2001 (Odisha Act 3 of 2002) (Ref. https://bit.ly/3znIBI2) and Odisha Public Library Rules 2016 (Ref. https://bit.ly/3qLCXeE) till now we have not seen any development of the Public Library System in Odisha. Although the Govt. of Odisha has a provision of Panchayat Library and Infotainment Centre under PR & DW Dept., there is no provision of appointment or work of a librarian in 6799 GP Libraries in Odisha. (Ref. https://bit.ly/3EPCu0f). Also in the current scenario, Govt. has established many Library, e-libraries in Govt. schools under MoSchool and 5T, but Govt. never thought about the person who executed these. If non-professionals handle libraries, what do professionals do ???
It is time to 'Fight for our Right', 'Save Library', 'Save Librarian'. Before start up a movement it is very necessary to know the followings:
How many Library & Information Science Professionals are from Odisha ?
How many Odisha LIS professionals are still unemployed or doing contract/temporary jobs?
How many Odisha LIS professionals are employed in other states? etc.
We, a group of LIS students, are trying to collect some data on this regard. In future it may be helped for a virtual Directory of Odisha LIS Professionals, Teacher & Students.
